Children's Trauma Recovery Foundation

Lead Response Team

The Community Services Program is funded through a generous grant from the Department of Mental Health-Metro Boston. Over the last five years, this funding has been used by the Community Services program to create and maintain a Metro-Boston Trauma Response Network (TRN) made up of clinicians and school and community-based persons who are trained and credentialed by the Community Services Program in School & Community Based Post Traumatic Stress Management (PTSM). This 20-Hour certificate course offers members of the TRN access to cutting edge trauma information as well as a comprehensive understanding of critical incident response in order to support the youth of their community.

From the wide range of experiences and disciplines available through the Metro-Boston TRN, Community Services has had the unique opportunity of creating a Lead Response Team (LRT). The LRT consists of approximately 30 licensed and non-licensed responders who have successfully completed the 20-Hour Basic School & Community Based PTSM training offered by the Community Services Program, and who self-select to apply to be a member of the LRT. Upon completion of the application and interview process, members of the LRT respond to critical incidents not only within their own communities, but make themselves available to respond on a citywide, and sometimes statewide, basis. Members of the LRT attend monthly meetings consisting of staff meetings, organizational meetings, voluntary self-care/vicarious trauma coping groups, and self-care/teambuilding days. In addition, LRT members commit to attending half of the advanced trainings offered by the Community Services Program throughout the year. LRT members are given the opportunity to respond on a more frequent basis to critical incidents with the goal of obtaining enough competency to lead formal group interventions and potentially assume the role of Triage Captain during larger-scale interventions.
